Bamboo Waste Regeneration × Local Essential Oil
Experience Design
Landscape Context|From Mountains to Fields: A Bamboo-Based Rural Ecosystem
Fuli, Hualien lies between the Central Mountain Range and the Coastal Mountain Range. With its rich terrain and biodiversity, it is one of the few regions in Taiwan that balances strong agricultural productivity with a deep commitment to environmental stewardship. In addition to rice and produce, the area is home to extensive bamboo forests that have long supported the supply of bamboo shoots and materials.
However, to maintain the health of these forests and the quality of bamboo shoots, large-scale thinning and land management are required each year. As a result, significant amounts of non-commercial bamboo waste accumulate along the fields, often ending up being burned.
Yet these materials—commonly regarded as waste—hold remarkable potential for regeneration.
Fuli Farmers’ Association Initiative|Local Essential Oils as a Catalyst for Rural Revitalization
In recent years, the Fuli Farmers’ Association has actively promoted a natural wellness brand centered on locally produced hydrosols and essential oils. By introducing herbs such as lavender, citronella, rosemary, and tea tree, they have developed a range of fragrance products with a strong regional identity.
Yet through this process, they observed a key insight:
“Without sustainable packaging, a fragrance experience loses its soul.”
This sparked a new vision—could discarded bamboo and cherished aromas come together to enter people’s daily lives?
tnt’s Role|Material Transformation × Product Design × Experiential Innovation
Invited by the Fuli Farmers’ Association, the TNT team introduced material regeneration technologies and experiential product design, transforming local bamboo waste into functional, educational, and sensory product packaging and containers, including:
Bamboo Fiber Essential Oil Roll-On Cases
Made from biodegradable bamboo-based materials and paired with glass roller cores, offering a warm tactile experience and easy portability—bringing fragrance seamlessly into everyday life.
Bamboo Fiber Mosquito Repellent Spray Bottles
Both the packaging and bottle body are made from biodegradable bamboo materials, paired with natural citronella-based formulas—balancing functionality with environmental responsibility.
Fragrance DIY Bottles and Packaging for Workshop Experiences
Through hands-on rural workshops, participants create their own fragrance sprays and hydrosol blends using containers made from locally sourced bamboo fibers—turning usage itself into a learning experience of natural cycles.
Project Highlights & Sustainability Impact
